The Alabama Tennis Club is an outlet for high school tennis players to continue their competitive tennis career on the collegiate level. There is both a travel team and a recreational team. The travel team is composed of the club’s best players, who compete in USTA Tennis on Campus tournaments throughout the country (approximately six tournaments per academic year). The recreational team is great for members who want to play tennis, but do not have the time to commit to the travel team. Both teams practice together Monday and Wednesday nights.
How to Get Involved: The tennis club accepts ALL levels of play, and does not hold any official tryouts. We are a club that encourages both casual and competitive players. After the first couple of practices, officers and returning members will guide new players on which team they should join (travel or recreational). This will be based on skill level. A rankings list (ladder) is also developed that will be updated throughout the year based on challenge matches.
Travel team members are expected to attend practice regularly, participate in challenge matches, and attend team tournaments. Since many tournaments allow one school to bring multiple teams (an A team, B team, etc.), as many as 25 of our players have attended a single tournament in the past.
The club travels to tournaments in a variety of locations throughout the south. Past tournament locations include: Auburn, AL, Hilton Head, SC, Knoxville, TN, and Orlando, FL.
Club tennis tournaments use the World Team Tennis format for matchplay. A comprehensive list of the rules can be found on this link: https://www.wtt.com/page.aspx?article_id=92
