Intramural Sports hires over 100 students each semester as sports officials. Discover a new way to be a part of the sport you love.

Intramural Sports Official’s Positions

  • Free training is provided during multiple day tryouts for the various sports
  • No prior experience is required
  • Officiating shirts and whistles will be provided
  • Flexible, evening hours (seasonal employment)
    • Games typically occur Sunday – Thursday between 5 p.m. – 11 p.m.
    • Officials average 10-15 hours per week and can work up to 20 hours per week
  • Officials are still able to play Intramural Sports
  • Learn skills for future employment such as: dependability, adaptability, communication, confidence, teamwork, and grit

Application Instructions

  • Complete an online application at studentjobs.ua.edu
    • After submitting an application, you must attend the sport trainings listed below, even if you do not receive a confirmation from our staff.
  • Applicants must attend one night of each session for every sport they are interested in being hired
    • If two dates are listed for a session, applicants only need to attend one of the options
    • Come dressed in athletic attire and sneakers
    • Bring a pen and paper to take notes
  • To be hired for any position, applicants must have their ORIGINAL I-9 Documentation
    • Typically, this is a social security card, birth certificate, or passport, but other forms of ID are acceptable as outlined by US Citizenship and Immigration Services
    • Copies, faxes, scans, or photos of documents cannot be accepted

 

OTHER POSITIONS

Supervisors

Competitive Sports Supervisors serve as leaders at Intramural Sports and Sport Club events. Responsibilities include staff supervision, providing excellent customer service, event management, official’s evaluations, conflict resolution, problem solving, and other duties as assigned. Applications are available to current officials at the end of each semester. One year of experience working in Competitive Sports is preferred to be considered for promotion. Hours include weekends and evenings.

Program Assistant

A Program Assistant is a leader with in Competitive Sports who has demonstrated leadership and a high level of commitment to its success.  Responsibilities include staff supervision, providing excellent customer service, assist in staff training, scheduling, event management, staff evaluations, conflict resolution, problem solving, and other duties as assigned. Program Assistants are expected to work 15-20 hours per week including evenings and weekends. Program Assistants are promoted from within the Competitive Sports Staff through an application process when openings are available.
