Located off Campus Drive by the Student Recreation Center, the Outdoor Pool Complex is open during the summer months to serve UA students, Student Recreation Center members, and guests.

The Outdoor Pool Complex features a lazy river, kiddie pool, water slide, and the Bama Cabana for refreshments. Look at our membership options and hours of operation to plan your visit.

The Outdoor Pool is available for reservation for special events. See hours of operation for scheduled closures during the summer season. Closures and/or schedule modifications may occur for inclement weather and or other unforeseen circumstances. Membership or an OPC Day Pass is required to access the Outdoor Pool Complex.

Membership

The Outdoor Pool Complex is included as part of Student Recreation Center Memberships, Outdoor Pool Complex only memberships are available.

  • SRC Members may purchase OPC memberships for their children through our membership office.
  • A satellite membership office will be open at the OPC with limited hours during the summer season.
  • Children age 3 and under are free.

Outdoor Pool Party Information

  • All requests to reserve the Outdoor Pool Complex must be made through the online Reservation Request Form.
  • The Event Coordinator will review all requests and determine the availability of the facilities. Certain fees and special arrangements may be required in order for the group to utilize University Recreation’s facilities to hold the event.
  • Cancellation must be made at least 30 days prior to the event by 5 p.m. Any cancellation after this time period may be subject to a penalty.

Reminders

  • Members must have an Action Card to enter facilities.
  • OPC Day Passes are $10 per person per day.
  • Children age 15 and under must be accompanied at all times by an adult (age 18 and above) with an active SRC or OPC Membership.
  • Members and/or guests aged 17 and under must have a release that has been signed by a parent or guardian (18 and older) on file.
    • This includes guests ages 16-17 who are with a member under age 18.
  • We do not offer “Rain Checks” or refunds.
  • Children age 3 and under are free.
  • Coolers and/or outside food and drinks are not allowed.
    • Water and ice only in plastic or metal containers
  • The facility will close for inclement weather and or other unforeseen circumstances.

Coolers, Food, and Beverage

  • Coolers and outside food or drink are not allowed in the Outdoor Pool Complex. Water in plastic or metal containers permitted.
  • Patrons may enjoy outside food and drinks at the picnic tables outside the complex entrance, by the parking lot.
  • Gum and food are not allowed in the pool area.
  • Food from the concession stand must be kept in the designated eating area.
  • Alcohol and tobacco products are prohibited.

Dress Code

  • Clothing specifically designed for swimming is required. Overly revealing swimwear and street clothes are prohibited. Swim attire must be appropriate for a family environment.
  • Inappropriate swim attire, swim attire with buckles, rivets, zippers or exposed metal, and other sharp objects are not allowed.
  • For safety, diaper-age children must wear plastic pants or swim diapers in pool areas.
  • Patrons are encouraged to arrive swim-ready.

Inclement Weather

  • The facility will close for 30 minutes anytime lightning occurs and reopen 30 minutes after the last time lightning is detected.
  • Rain checks and refunds are not offered for guest passes.

Life Jackets

  • Inexperienced or non-swimmers are encouraged to wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets.
  • Water wings are not considered lifesaving devices and their use is discouraged.
  • Complimentary life jackets are available for youth.
  • Non-swimming or floatation-dependent children must remain within arm’s reach of a
    parent/guardian.

Parking

  • A valid UA Parking Permit is required.
  • Patron Parking Permits are available for purchase.
  • Pay Station Parking is located in Student Recreation Center Lot 401 Peter Bryce Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL closest to Peter Bryce Blvd.

Prohibited Items

  • Alcohol, tobacco products, and illegal drugs are not permitted.
  • Photography of others is prohibited in UREC facilities without consent.
  • Coolers and outside food or drink are not allowed in the Outdoor Pool Complex.
  • UREC aquatic facilities may not be used for private instruction or to provide services not approved in writing by UREC such as private lessons or personal training.
  • Pets are not permitted in the pool area. Service Animals welcome.
  • Bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, and roller skates are prohibited.

Towels

  • Towels are not provided or available for purchase at the Outdoor Pool Complex.
  • Patrons are encouraged to bring towels to dry off and place them over lounge chairs they utilize.

Pool Safety and Facility Guidelines

University Recreation realizes you are investing your time and energy into health and
fitness, and this facility is for your use. However, using this facility is a privilege, and we ask
that you abide by our UREC Outdoor Pool Complex guidelines in addition to our general UREC Facility Usage Guidelines.

Warning: Pools are shallow water. No headfirst entry of any type is permitted in either pool.
  • A long whistle blast from the lifeguards is used to clear the pool in the event of an
    emergency or severe weather; always follow instructions from the staff.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for the safety and direct supervision of their children at
    all times.
  • Non-swimming or floatation dependent children must remain within arm’s reach of a
    parent/guardian.
  • Children requiring the use of diapers must wear swim diapers while using UREC pools.
    Please do not change diapers poolside.
  • If you have had the flu or diarrhea in the last two weeks, do not swim!
  • All swimmers should shower thoroughly before entering the pool and before re-entering
    following use of the toilet.
  • Purposeful hyperventilation and prolonged repetitive breath-holding are prohibited.
  • Glass and stoneware containers are not permitted.
  • No running, pushing, horse-playing, or other high-risk behavior in the pool area.
  • Courtesy is expected of all pool patrons at all times. The use of foul language, explicit
    behavior, excessive noise offensive to others will not be tolerated.
  • Clothing specifically designed for swimming is required. Overly revealing swimwear and
    street clothes are prohibited.
  • Personal floats are not allowed. UREC inner tubes are not allowed in the toddler pool.
  • The toddler pool is for children under the age of 6 and is not lifeguarded; parents/guardians
    are responsible for the safety of their children.
  • The facility will close for 30 minutes anytime lightning occurs and reopen 30 minutes after
    the last time lightning is detected.
  • Patrons with skin diseases, infections, open cuts, or sores may be denied access to the pool
    if it presents a hazard to themselves or other patrons.
  • Bandages and/or band-aids are not permitted in the pools.
  • Children 4 years of age or older should use same-sex restrooms or inclusive restrooms.
  • Climbing onto or over the middle retaining wall is not permitted.
  • Gum and food are not allowed in the pool area. Food must be kept in the designated eating
    area.
  • Aquatic Staff has final authority on all matters in the pool and will restrict any activity
    deemed unsafe.

Failure to follow safety rules and staff instructions can result in serious injury to yourself or others and result in loss of membership/access privileges. University Recreation reserves the right to refuse
admittance to or dismiss from its premises, any persons failing to comply with rules and staff
instruction.

Waterslide Safety Guidelines

Failure to follow guidelines can result in serious injury.

  • Only one slider at a time
  • Maximum weight – 300 lbs. (136 hg)
  • Minimum height – 48” (1.02m)

Slide Instructions:

  • Riders must wait for the attendant’s start signal before starting to slide.
  • Only ride slide feet first lying on your back with legs crossed at the ankles and arms
    folded across your chest.
  • Keep your hands inside the slide at all times.
  • Do not run, dive, stand, kneel, rotate or stop in the slide.
  • Tubes or personal floatation devices are not permitted in the slide.
  • At the end of the slide, obey all instructions by the Lifeguard and exit the pool
    quickly.
  • No swimming in the splashdown pool.

To avoid injury:

  • Pregnant women and persons with heart conditions or back trouble should not ride
    this slide.
  • Eyeglasses must be securely affixed to riders with head straps or held in their hands.
  • Swimwear with exposed zippers, buckles, rivets, or metal ornamentation is not
    permitted.
  • Do not use this slide while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Additional Information for Patrons with Children

  • Each hour there will be a 10-minute “safety” break for children age 15 years and
    younger. All patrons under age 15 must exit the pool for the break and should not
    go to the toddler pool during this time. Restroom breaks are encouraged during this
    time.
  • Parents are encouraged to take children on restroom breaks or check diapers often.
    Waiting to hear “I have to go” may be too late. This helps to prevent germs from
    spreading.
  • Please change children’s diapers at a diaper-changing area in restrooms and not
    poolside.
  • Children age 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (age 19 and above).
