CLIMBING WALL VOCABULARY
Auto Belay:
Indoor top-rope belay method using a mechanical device that takes in slack as the climber ascends and automatically lowers the climber to the ground after he/she comes off the wall.
Belay Test:
Competency test that our climbing center gives to climbers to ensure proper belay skills.
Belayer:
Individual who manages the rope for the climber and keeps the rope from moving in the event of a fall.
Bouldering:
Climbing unroped on boulders or traversing low to the ground. Often associated with very difficult, although short bursts, of climbing.
Top Roping:
A roped climbing system in which the climbing rope travels up to an above anchor and then back down to the belayer.
